Thoughts about life.

- It's ironic to see how people act in particular situations and tell yourself "I would never do that," until you are placed in that same situation and realize that you are doing the same exact thing. In 8th grade I was very determined to write a book going against society's stereotypes about teenagers. I wrote about 10 pages and stopped there. I came back to it a couple days ago and laughed for a good chunk of time. To some extent my life ended up being a contradiction to what I wrote. I suppose it was a good idea back then.

- College takes 10 yrs of life and compacts it into 4, so that we are thrown curve ball after curve ball: transitioning from childhood to adulthood, dealing with love, understanding the real world, and deciding what we want to do with our lives. I know, quite complicated.

-I decided to reread the book over break, "He's just not into you" over break. When I read the book, I thought to myself, "Some guys aren't into me? Really? damn." haha jk. But really though I think I identified myself in a lot of those situations in the past. I kinda of wished I read that book earlier cause I wouldn't have wasted my time on certain guys who are exactly the type of guys that the book described. But seriously, even when guys explicitly state that they just aren't interested in us, we rationalize that maybe if we get super fit and got a make over and dressed cuter, he's going to run back to us and say that he made the biggest mistake of his life. That's just us being real idiots. The moral of the story was that if he's just not that into you stop wasting your time dwelling over how you can get him back, because when a guy is really into you, he won't be complicated, manipulative, or unavailable, or have some sort of commitment phobia.

Why is that whenever I want to update, I log in to lj and suddenly I have nothing to say?

Anyway, I am back in Fremont and I want to do something exciting like get dressed up and go to SF or anything!

When I got home, my mom lectured me about how the key to being a good Indian wife is knowing how to cook. So basically, this whole break I'll be spending my time in the kitchen and learning how to make Indian food for my future Indian husband (which I'm sure they'll be soon lined up).

I had a really good conversation with someone today and it definitely helped me step back and put what's going on my life in perspective and decide on some important things that I've been unsure about lately. I really miss having those conversations, because lately I feel like I've been having superficial conversations with a lot of people lately. I suppose it's not entirely other people's faults; I have been pretty wrapped up with my own life as well.

I was re-reading a post I made before this quarter started and I can't believe how every quarter seems to be going faster and faster... and while I was pessimistic about this quarter, I suppose it was a lot better than I expected. But I still hope that this quarter will be better in certain aspects.

Well that's all for now. If you are in Fremont, let's hang out!

-I must say that with Namrata visiting this weekend and my apartmentmates and I being silly, I haven't laughed this much in such a long time. It's nice to sometimes just stop and take a break from reality.

-I'm coming home for Thanksgiving this Wednesday and I am super excited to be at home and hopefully see people from Fremont again.

-Nevin and I celebrated our one year anniversary last week. I'm proud of us =).

The future is a scary thing. I have no idea what I even want to do anymore...I feel like I'm struggling between too many options and lack of options (as strange as it sounds). And it doesn't help that I'm doing all these things and not really stopping and thinking things through.

Music:Backstreet Boys- You are my fire (Revisiting my childhood)

So, I am back from the East Coast, which was super fun! I was afraid that the weather would suck and that we wouldn’t be able to do much, but it turned out be fine. There’s so much to do on the East Coast and I had so little time!

Sun- Sturbridge, Mass. The outdoor museum is a re-created rural New England town of the 1830s.

Mon- Took a cruise around Thimble Islands (These islands have huge mansions built on it that run for $23 million…hah if I died with just a million, I think I’ll be happy).

Tues- Went around Connecticut and visited Yale. It’s such a different atmosphere than SD. Melissa’s dad really wants me to Yale Med and Melissa to go to Yale law…man that would mean we’d be roomies for 7 years…that would be crazy. Almost like a couple (haha Nevin, I’m sure you are jealous…maybe not).

Wed- New York- Went to Time Square and Rockefeller Center. Had lunch with Yumi and Guantong. Went to NYU and Chinatown and then had dinner at the HardRock Café.

Anyway, I leave for SD this Friday and my fam and I are visiting my relatives for a couple of days. So, I should be back in my apartment on Sun.

This summer seriously went by really fast. Usually, I’m pretty optimistic about school starting, but this year I am a bit pessimistic for different reasons. I think it’s partly because isn’t much of this anxious excitement of moving in, since we’ve already moved. Also, I’m not too trilled about my schedule next quarter, so I’m not sure how that will go. I really like to meet new people though or get to know the people that I’m not that close to, but I am not sure how well that will happen, since we’re all living off campus.

On another note, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how most things turn out to be so different than we expect it to be, especially in college. The person I have grown to be and the experiences that I’ve encountered in nearly every aspect are so different than I envisioned it to be back in high school or even last year.

Nevin and I were talking about for example how the boundary change in the Fremont area was such a big deal for us. And although I was bummed about the whole boundary change decision, without those changes, Nevin and I would have never gone to the same high school and thus probably not end up where we are now. And even in senior year of high school, I never thought that my Quest project on diabetes would eventually lead me to researching it in college.

In college, we don’t have that stability anymore. Things change so quickly even within a quarter. It makes me wonder what is in store for me for the future and how things will turn out next year or even when we graduate. To some extent, there’s this thrill in knowing that I don’t know what will happen. And I guess, if I keep telling myself that all changes will result in what’s best for me in the end, then I shouldn’t be so pessimistic about this upcoming year.

um... I don't know what to write, but the best time to update is when you should be studying for a midterm. = D

I'm coming home this Saturday! I'm super excited and now that I think about it...holy crap, my summer in SD went by really fast. I'll be in good old Fremont until Sept 18, so that should give me some time to bond with the familia, nim, and everyone else!

Oh and I'm going to the East Coast in the beginning of Sept! Melissa and I are planning to make a trip to NY to watch a play and meet up with some friends. o-m-g... I seriously can't wait.

Anyway, last weekend Melissa and I went to Visalia to visit Chels and boy oh boy... it was quite an adventure, but it was definitely worth it! We went to Sequoia National Park, watched Step Up (it was such a hot movie), and went to the infamous Mearles, and spent some good quality time together. =) (You can read Melissa's lj if you want more details).

Goal when I go home:
Learn to cook

That's it.

A lot has been going on these past few weeks. I haven’t been this busy in such a long time, but it feels great. Any free time I do have is better spent doing other things besides checking facebook.

We officially got an apartment! To quote Melissa’s lj it’s “1,100 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 2 bath, huge kitchen, large common area, nice balcony overlooking a courtyard with fountains, the cheapest laundry machines EVER, a nice lap pool, endless supply of parking, brand new gym, beautiful beautiful buildings...for $1,600 a month.” Our lease starts on June 10th, which is the week of finals. It’ll be hectic moving, but I’m so excited that we at least found a place to live and that our apartment is so nice.

I also got a job at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, where I’m researching Type 1 diabetes. I’ve always been so passionate about the subject, so when I found out I got the job, I was very, very ecstatic!

Because our lease starts in June and work, I’m staying in SD this summer. A lot of people I know are also staying in SD, so it’ll be a lot of fun. Nevin isn’t sure what his plans are yet, but I am hoping… actually praying that he’ll stay here too, because I don’t know what I would do without him for that long.

Culture show is coming up next weekend. It’s exciting, yet nerve-wracking at the same time. We’ve been practicing a lot this past month and because of everyone’s schedule conflicts we’ve been having several practices start at 6:30 AM. I know, hardcore.

After culture show things should settle down a bit (I hope) and Memorial Day weekend, I'm going up with Melissa to visit her grandparents. I'm really excited to spend that weekend with them; it'll be fun!

Anyway, I just came back from Steven’s play. I must say he is absolutely hilarious. It’s so nice to have such talented friends…well, I’d love them even if they were lame and lifeless.

Okie…sorry for the somewhat long post. Good night!

I really don't know why I bother to update lj anymore, but I suppose it's better than reading for genetics (which is an interesting class, but the professor could be a little more enthusiastic).

Anyway, Manaf and Namrata came down last weekend. It was fun, no doubt about that. On Friday night, after I came back from Brandy/Veronica/Raquel's party, Lisa made us spaghetti and all of us hung out and played some game that I don't remember. On Saturday, we went to the beach, had a cute little picnic. When we got back, we got ready and a bunch of us went to CPK. After we decided to go watch "Take the Lead," which was such a good movie. I want to see it again! On Sunday, we got lunch and as usual, I was sad because they had to leave. =(

So far this quarter has started off really well. I'm glad that I know several people in all of my classes; it makes it a lot more fun.

We've also been looking for housing next year and depending what we find, I might have to stay here this summer. There are pro's and con's to that, so we'll see what happens.

Anyway, there's so much that's coming up for this quarter. It'll be hard juggling everything, but I know it's going to be a lot of fun.

This year is going by so quickly. Seriously though, college is half over. So much has happened since I first started college. Especially this year, I could say that I feel complete with the people who are part of my life right now. I'm so thankful for that.

Music:Death Cab for Cutie- Soul Meets Body

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationships with people and how they’ve changed over a period of time. I made a quite a few close friends in SD last year that I thought would last through this year, even if we didn’t live together. However, we’ve already pretty much all grown apart.

I think we all like to say that we have conflicting schedules and that we just don’t have time, but in reality, I think if people really want to hang out, they will make the time to hang out or keep in touch no matter how busy their schedules are.

Honestly, people ask me why I don’t keep in touch and I say that I just got so wrapped up with things, that I didn’t have time. But really, there are times that I’m doing nothing and I could just pick up the phone to call, even if it’s not for a long time…yet I don’t. So, if this is the case for me, I’m sure it’s like that for other people.

All of this gets me to think, why am I making that effort with the people I’m close to now, if eventually most of us are going to grow apart? But when I look back and think of the times we did spend together, it makes me realize how much I enjoyed that and how much I grew as a person from my friendships with others.

All of this is nothing new, but what I want to say is that I know next year, we’re pretty much all doing different things: studying abroad, living in I-house, becoming an RA, living off-campus and with that we’re all probably grow somewhat apart. But I hope that people, and even myself, realize that instead of only complaining about each other or not finding time to even talk, we should realize that we don’t have a lot of time left before this school year ends, so we should use that time to create more good times and spend as much time together, so that later we’ll have the good stuff to remember.

I think I’ll make this plain and simple. I’m sorry if I’ve been a bitch lately. I’m tired of being nice to people who aren’t worth my energy. So, unless you are the few people that I truly care about, please don’t expect me to put any energy into trying to be a good friend to you unless I also see that from you.

And on a sober note: Everyone on my last list are still my most best friends, except #10.

It's 3:25 am and apparently Nevin, Namrata, and I are dead tired. Manaf still is still wide awake and wants to be a badass. Oh Manaf, come to the left side of the bed tonight, so I can wear you out.

Anyway, Nevin and I made our long journey to LA on Friday night. When we got to campus, we dropped our stuff at Manaf's room and admired his dirty collection of... Then we got a quick snack at Bruin Cafe.

On Satuday, Namrata and I got ready and we waited forever for Manaf and Nevin (cause apparently they were doing something until 6 am... they claim they were talking). We got lunch and then went to Hollywood where we saw lots of stuff! That's such a cool place to be... I felt like I suddenly had a life. We came back and got dressed up to go to Acapulco's for dinner.

This morning, after lunch, we decided to go into nerd mode and do some serious work. However, we got distracted by painting Nevin's nails and putting makeup on him. He looked so pretty. Then we went out to dinner at a NY style pizza place, La Monica's. Oh man, we had so many laughs there that half the people left cause we were being so loud. Oh well. Then we went to the famous Diddy Riese and then went to watch The Last Holiday. It was really good. We came back and got really hyper and did many things that may not be appropriate for this live journal...

We were just a badass bunch this weekend. I had so much fun this weekend and laughs that were nearly pee in your pants kind of laughs. We leave tomorrow afternoon. I know when I get back in SD I'm going to get that feeling like I'm homesick.

Until next time, so long. Bye bye.

I think the hardest thing for me to accept is change. It’s nothing new, since everyone has to deal with it at some point. It’s just not the same hanging out with most people these days. Telling someone that “we have to catch up” doesn't really mean that we're going to catch up, cause it’s hard to tell everything that has happened since the last time we saw each other.

Yeah, it’s nice to see old friends again, but it’s just not the same. We don’t laugh as much or smile about the same things; it seems that our conversations are so superficial. I can tell I’m already growing apart with most people. But for some reason I’m still hanging on, because I can’t let go of the past that we all shared together.

I think most of it comes down to the fact I’ve changed. I don’t how I've changed exactly, but I can just tell. I do want to keep in touch with a lot of people, but more and more I realize that I only need a few people to be happy. I know it sounds selfish. I remember coming back for winter break last year so excited to see everyone again; this break I’m a lot less enthusiastic. If I see people then great; if not then oh well.

That’s the way it goes.

I've gotten several requests to update my lj mainly cause my life is somewhat more interesting than studying for finals.

My Thanksgiving break was very relaxing. I made lasagna without burning my house down. My mom was proud of me and now she's slightly more optimistic that one day I'll be able to cook full Indian meals. Speaking of food, Parisa and I made cake today. We had a lot of fun and it turned out delicious. If we started our own cooking show, I'm sure it'ld be better than certain other cooking shows, cause we're just so awesome like that.

On Saturday, Kai, Ashish, Nevin, Albert, Tanu, Vickie, and Manaf, and I had lunch. It was great seeing everyone again after such a long time...well not Nevin, cause I always see him. I missed not being able to see Nim. =(

Anyway, when I got back to SD on Sunday, I saw the movie Just Friends. It was pretty funny in a lame way...even for me. It was still good =).

So yeah...let's see... I lost my nose ring. Lisa and I searched all morning for it, but there was no sign of it anywhere. So I was sad, cause by the time I get a new one, my hole will already be closed up. Oh well.

I have a midterm at 8am tomorrow. What-the-hell... a midterm a week before finals.

So that's about it... and yes, in case you haven't heard, nevin and i are going out.

It's so hard to update this thing, especially since there's been a lot going on. So if you are really interested in what's going on in my so-called life, you can just ask me =)

Here are some highlights in this past week or so:

-I'm teaching dance and am also taking dance. It feels so good to get back into it!
-Last weekend, Nevin and I went to LA and checked out the King Tut exhibit. We also spent sometime at UCLA. Manaf and I kinda talked about how it would be so awesome for all of us to spend the summer in LA. That would be so much fun!
-Parisa and I went to this dance party thing last night. It was scandalous fun...if you know what I mean.
-I dyed my hair today! Even though it didn't show up, it was a good way to waste time. Next time, I think I need to buy blond hair dye in order for the color to somewhat show up.
-Veronica visited today!
-So many awesome random moments with everyone here... I love it.

Anyway, that's all for now. Here's a lame knee-slapper joke in the spirit of Halloween

What do you call a little monster's parents?

Mummy and deady

lol. Ok bye. Happy Halloween!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated. There’s just so much to say… I don’t know where to really start.

Well, Friday evening Melissa and I went to the fall fest concert… it was so awesome! Yellowcard and Nural were so good…loved it. DJ Quick wasn’t exactly great, but it was all good cause Melissa and I did some “scandalous” things in the pit…lol.

When I got back to the concert, Parisa and Nevin were waiting for me outside and they made me close my eyes as I walked inside the apartment. When I opened them, Namrata, and Manaf, Chelsea, Yumi, Lisa, and Ron were sitting on the couch! Omg… I hella screamed and jumped on Namrata…haha. I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so much. It was quite a surprise! On top of that Chelsea bought me strawberry ice-cream and Lisa bought me samosas… I swear it was the one of the best days I’ve ever had (it was like an early birthday present).

It was really cute cause everyone and their mom knew about it and they all worked together to make this surprise work… even though I suspected something was going on all week, I hella didn’t expect that they would surprise me like that… it made me feel so loved!

Anyway, we relaxed for most of the weekend and visited friends. On Saturday night Renee, Jenn, Debo, Ron, Lisa, Parisa, Nevin, Manaf, Nim, and I went out to BJs to celebrate Nevin’s and Manaf’s belated birthday. It was a lot of fun…we took a bunch of pics, so at some point I’ll post them.

On Sunday, Nevin, Debo, and I dropped Nim and Manaf at the train station. We were so sad that they had to leave…the weekend went by wayy too fast. Luckily, Nevin and I are going up to LA in a couple of weeks to go to see the King Tut exhibit, so we’ll be able to see them then!

Anyway, I really wanted to say thanks to everyone, especially Nevi-poo, Parisa, Manaf, and Nim for making this weekend one of the best. I love you guys so much and I’m so grateful to have the most awesome friends.

I'm in such a good mood... I've had the cheesiest smile on my face all day for no reason. I love those moments where you don't now why, but you just feel happy!

Today was my last day of work... I hate saying goodbye to people cause I never know how to act. Anywho, I went to my favorite place for lunch with my most favorite person. We were soo hyper (or at least I was...haha.. Nim quacks me up). After, we went to Manaf's house and played golf and had a sword fight (it was quite intense). It was mucho fun and Manaf's mom was laughing at us cause we were acting like we were 5 yrs. old...so cute.

I seriously love my friends, especially since I can act like a complete dork and make a total fool out of myself with them!

Anyway, I think I'm going to hang out with Nevin (nevi-poo...lol) soon. And then, I'm going out to dinner tonight with the crew.

Oy ... I need to do some serious packing soon... one more week before I leave!
